Dr. Paul Jenkins MA BChir MD FRCP Medical Director
Paul is a Consultant Physician & the Medical Director of the Centre. He trained at Cambridge University and then The Royal London Hospital before commencing his specialist training in endocrinology at St Bartholomew's Hospital. He was appointed a consultant at the age of 35 and a Reader in Endocrinology in 2001. More recently, he has commenced full-time independent practice. Paul has a particular interest in disorders of the pituitary, thyroid and adrenal glands and has published over 75 scientific papers in this field.
In 2003 he became the Medical Director of the Centre and has overseen its transformation into one of the UK’s foremost independent diagnostic imaging centres, culminating in our recent acquisition of the Aquilion ONE 640 slice scanner.
Dr. Sarah Howling MB BS MRCP FRCR Director of Imaging
Sarah is the Director of Imaging at the Centre and joint Director of Imaging and consultant radiologist at the Whittington Hospital (since 1999) where she specialises in chest imaging and imaging of the thyroid gland. Her radiology speciality training included cardiothoracic training at the Royal Brompton Hospital and a prestigious international fellowship in thoracic imaging in Vancouver.
Sarah is the lead radiologist for lung cancer at the Whittington Hospital and heads their weekly chest multidisciplinary meeting, where her opinion on difficult chest CT scans is renowned.
She is also the lead consultant in ultrasound scanning, particularly that of the thyroid gland in which she has over 12 years experience. As such she performs more than 95% of all the thyroid ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations at the hospital, which is an average of 7-10 each week.
Sarah is one of only a handful of UK radiologists with a wealth of experience in gallbladder ultrasound provocation studies, used in the investigation of unexplained abdominal pain, and pioneered this technique within London.
Dr Katherine Miszkiel Consultant Radiologist - Neurology
Dr Katherine Miszkiel qualified from Southampton University and after training in general radiology at University College and The Middlesex Hospitals, went onto to sub specialise in diagnostic neuroradiology. She has been a consultant at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery since 1998, with a subsequent appointment as an honorary consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2000. Her main interests include neuro-inflammatory disorders, orbital diseases and neuro-opthalmology. She has numerous publications, many in the field of imaging in multiple sclersosis, as she has been the lead radiological support for the prestigious NMR Research Unit at the Institute of Neurology, UCL, for over a decade.
Dr. Sujal Desai Consultant Radiologist - Neurology
Dr Sujal Desai is a consultant radiologist at King's College Hospital Foundation NHS Trust. He trained in medicine at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School (University of London) and in radiology first at King's College Hospital and later at the Royal Brompton Hospital, where he was awarded an MD for his thesis in structural-functional relationships in fibrotic lung diseases. Dr Desai is a fellow both of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Radiologists. Dr Desai is the radiology lead for imaging of pulmonary diseases and haematological malignancies and was instrumental in establishing the King's College Hospital protocol for investigation of patients with suspected acute embolism. In addition to his research interest in diffuse interstitial lung diseases, Dr Desai has an interest in pulmonary vascular disease in general and specifically in patients with sickle cell disease.
Dr Polly Richards Consultant Radiologist - Neurology
Dr Polly Richards is a Neuroradiologist specialising in Head and Neck Imaging and has been a consultant at Barts and the London since 2002. She trained in Oxford, Bristol and London before a doing subspecialty Fellowship in Head and Neck Imaging in Hong Kong. Dr Richards has a particular interest in ultrasound of the neck and has helped to develop a comprehensive ultrasound service for the Trust including a new rapid diagnostics service for head and neck patients. She is a member of
The National Dental Radiology Diploma Examination Board, Secretary of the British Society of Head and Neck Imaging and Vice Chairman of the North East London Cancer Network Tumour Advisory Board for Head and Neck Cancer. Dr Richards regularly lectures on aspects of Head and neck Imaging and has contributed to several text books on the subject.
Sarah Maffrett Radiographer
Sarah qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer at the University of Hertfordshire in 2002. Since then she has worked both in hospital and private practice clinical settings using a variety of imaging modalities including CT.
Dr. Christopher Harvey BSc MBBS MRCP FRCR Consultant Radiologist - Abdomen/pelvis
Chris Harvey qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Hospital Medical School having obtained an intercalated BSc in Physiology. He trained in radiology at The Middlesex/UCL and Hammersmith Hospitals before becoming MRC research fellow at Hammersmith Hospital. He became a consultant at Hammersmith Hospital in 2001 as well as head of ultrasound. He has published many peer reviewed papers, books, and chapters on a wide spectrum of radiological subjects.
His clinical interests include cross sectional imaging particularly of the heart, colon, renal/urogenital tract and hepatobiliary system. He was integral to the early development of CT colonography in the UK and is our principle gastrointestinal specialist.
Dr Paras Dalal Consultant Radiologist - Cardiac
Dr Paras Dalal specialises in cardiac, thoracic and oncological imaging and intervention (including endobronchial ultrasound); lung transplant imaging and percutaneous therapies for lung tumours (including radio-frequency ablation and microwave therapy). Dr Dalal studied as an undergraduate at Imperial College, London and went on to specialise in radiology at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, London. His radiology fellowships were at The Royal Brompton Hospital, The Royal Marsden Hospital and at University College Hospital, London. He regularly teaches on post-graduate courses and has lectured at several thoracic imaging conferences. He is Chairman of the North and West London Lung Cancer Network. Dr Dalal is regular reviewer for the European Radiology Journal of the Society of Cardiovascular CT (computed tomography) and the American Journal of Radiology. He has also written book chapters on lung cancer and pulmonary vasculature imaging.
Dr Simon Padley Consultant Radiologist - Cardiac
Dr Simon Padley is a consultant radiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital with special interest in thoracic and cardiac CT. He was the recipient of a 1991-2 thoracic imaging fellowship at Vancouver General Hospital. Dr Padley has been an invited speaker on thoracic imaging at the European Congress of Radiology Annual Meeting and European Society of Thoracic Imaging Annual Meetings. Dr Padley is the assistant editor of Clinical Radiology and peer reviewer for a number of journals. He is the author of numerous articles and chapters on cardiac and thoracic imaging.
Dr. Christopher Schelvan BSc MBBS MRCP FRCR Consultant Radiologist - Abdomen/pelvis
Chris is a Consultant Radiologist in cross-sectional imaging at St Mary’s Hospital and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. His special interests are Abdominal and Gastrointestinal imaging, but he has extensive body imaging experience in CT, MRI and ultrasound, as well as ultrasound/CT guided interventional procedures. He is lead radiologist at the Cyberknife Centre at the Harley Street Clinic, and has an extensive medical education portfolio, including being Head of Year 3 for all medical undergraduates within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London.
Mr Tony McArthur - Superintendent Radiographer
Tony is our Superintendent Radiographer and has been at the Centre since it first opened over 8 years ago. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the scanner and has a wealth of experience in CT imaging.
Mr Mike Tighe - Deputy Superintendent Radiographer
Mike is our Deputy Superintendent radiographer and has worked with Tony for many years at The Middlesex hospital before joining the Centre. Mike has a reputation for his warmth and ability to put patients at ease whilst they are being scanned.
Dr. Jeevan Kumaradevan MB ChB MRCP FRCR Consultant Radiologist - Urology
Jeevan is a Consultant Radiologist at the Whittington Hospital where he is currently the joint clinical lead as well as leading the urology and vascular intervention radiology services. His pre-radiology career included being a clinical cardiology fellow at Papworth Everard hospital; general medical and chest registrar at Guys’ hospital and toxicology registrar at the national poison’s unit. He did his radiology training at the Royal Free Hospital and completed an Imaging Fellowship in Perth, Australia. His interests include body cross sectional imaging. He provides our urological expertise.
If your GP or specialist has referred you
You will be free to leave the clinic once the scan has been completed. Two copies of the written report of your results will be sent directly to your doctor together with a CD of your images. The report is usually sent within 24 hours of your visit, depending upon the type of scan. You will need to arrange a follow-up appointment with your GP or specialist for interpretation of the scan results.
